Dean of Creative Arts
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is looking for a distinguished, innovative and dynamic scholar to lead the School of Creative Arts.
HKBU
Founded in 1956, HKBU strives to become a world-class research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world delivering academic and research excellence in a caring, creative and global culture. The University's ambitious Institutional Strategic Plan 2018-2028 sets the research direction to transform HKBU into a reputable international powerhouse for research and teaching excellence.
The University currently has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1,000 and a student population of over 12,000. We offer a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through the Faculties/Schools of Arts, Business, Creative Arts, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Science, Social Sciences and Continuing Education.
In Mainland China, the University has successfully pioneered the establishment of a modern liberal arts college, BNU-HKBU United International College, jointly with Beijing Normal University. To further strengthen research collaborations with Mainland universities, the University has set up a number of research centres/institutes such as the Institute of Research and Continuing Education in Shenzhen.
Established on 1 July 2022, the School of Creative Arts is the academic home of three well-established units - the Academy of Film, Academy of Music, and Academy of Visual Arts. These academies are joined by two new transdisciplinary programmes in the areas of Art & Technology, and Global Entertainment Business. The School has a total of over 1,240 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 60 full-time faculty members.
The School attaches great importance to transdisciplinary teaching and learning to nurture future-ready talents for Hong Kong and beyond. Our integrated talent pool comprises experts from different arts disciplines who can facilitate broader collaboration with local and overseas universities, research institutions, government departments, professional bodies and industries.
Role of the Dean
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean oversees and leads the School in achieving greater heights in research and teaching, nurturing students and young scholars, developing transdisciplinary research, building networks with the local and international communities, and strengthening the bond with alumni.
The Appointee

The appointee will foster an environment to expand the breadth and impact of faculty research, provide effective leadership, foster strong partnerships and collaborations with other universities and the industry and solicit external funding to support the School's research and initiatives. The appointee will work closely with the Senior Management Team and the other Deans of Faculties/Schools to contribute to the strategic development of the University. Apart from the duties and responsibilities in academic leadership and management, it is expected that the appointee will hold a concurrent academic appointment in the School and engage in research, teaching and other scholarly activities.
The appointee should have a proven successful track record of academic leadership and international perspective. Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills are necessary.
