Senior Data Engineer (23241091)

Under the general supervision of the Director, Institutional Research and Strategic Planning, and reporting directly to the Senior Manager (Data Analytics and Management), the appointee will play a pivotal role in supporting the University’s data architecture and strategy.

Responsibilities:
• Identify and gather business requirements to design data models to ensure data quality, integrity and performance across multiple sources and systems;
• Develop and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines from various data sources within and outside the university for analytics and operational use;
• Design and implement scalable and efficient ETL processes for data transformation and preparation;
• Create clear documentation for data cataloguing, data mapping, and any other relevant technical information; and
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• A BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Statistics or related discipline;
• At least 7 years of experience in a data engineering role with a solid track record of data processing and modeling. Previous experience in the higher education sector will be advantageous;
• Expertise in ETL technologies and processes;
• Experience with Python or Scala programming languages;
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases;
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and
• Attentive to details, willing to continuously learn and be highly self-motivated.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for the position of Data Engineer.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Salary and rank of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
