We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Director, Head of Data Science and Applied AI Asia. Background Working on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities including Natural Language Processing (NLP), recommender systems, data mining, deep learning, and Generative AI (GenAI), the Data Science and Applied AI Team within Markets and Securities Services (MSS) creates novel solutions for Sales, Trading, and other key Front Office stakeholders. Based in Hong Kong, the Senior Manager, Data Science and Applied AI will be key to the success of MSS’ overall AI strategy, and as such it is essential that the role holder has a deep understanding of AI/ML as well as strong commercial awareness. The Head of Data Science and Applied AI Asia will report into the Head of AI and Model Management for MSS, and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a growing team of Data Scientists based in Hong Kong. The successful applicant will have an established record of developing and productionising solutions in a banking/financial services setting, and will work closely with a variety of business stakeholders ( Sales, Trading, IT) on AI initiatives across Asia. Key Responsibilities Work with stakeholders across Sales, Trading, and IT on an ongoing basis to identify opportunities and document business cases for new potential AI solutions; Manage junior Data Scientists and AI Developers to successfully complete prioritised projects; Help build a culture of rapid innovation and scalable development of AI tools within a robust end-to-end control framework; Ensure all model and AI risk management requirements are met prior to moving any tools into production; Serve as a key contact and subject matter expert on Data Science, AI, and AI risk management for colleagues within MSS and across Asia; Develop relationships with key Data Science / AI teams across MSS ( MSS Ops IT, AI Markets) and ensure they are working collaboratively, leveraging existing tools where appropriate, providing advice and access to MSS solutions, and avoiding duplication of efforts; Work closely with colleagues from Regulatory Compliance, Legal, Model Risk, and Regulatory Liaison to ensure compliance with an evolving set of internal policies as well as regulatory landscapes; Generate content/responses for papers, slide decks, regulator requests, etc. as required. Requirements Required: PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related subfield ( Statistics, Computational Neuroscience); Extensive years of previous experience developing and productionising AI/ML solutions in banking / finance; Strong planning, communication, and stakeholder management skills; Proven ability to prioritize workloads across a landscape of competing demands; Ability to build lasting working relationships with stakeholders from a variety of business and technical backgrounds; Previous experience identifying and managing risks, issues and dependencies related to complex Data Science / AI projects. Desirable: Previous experience in investment banking / delivering AI solutions for Front Office stakeholders; Good knowledge of regulatory trends and developments relating to AI.
