Title: FX eRisk DevOps Support Engineer
Contract: 12 Months with good chance of conversion to permanent
Salary Range: to HKD83,000 (depending on experience)
Overview
FX IT focuses on the support and development of systems and processes for Global Banking and Markets FX business worldwide. FX IT is currently made up of staff based in Asia, London, New York and Canada.
The business provides tailored financial solutions to major government, corporate and institutional clients world-wide. Managed as a global business, it operates a long-term relationship management approach to build a full understanding of client financial requirements. Clients are served by sector-based client service teams that combine relationship managers and product specialists to develop financial solutions to meet individual client needs.
Purpose
The candidate will be responsible for onboarding and production management for FX IT systems on the trading floor, primarily in venue / client onboarding and supporting the Asia on-line day, although the role will be part of a Regional and Global Teams providing follow-the-sun operational to Europe and New York when necessary, under a DevOps IT service delivery model.
This role will be focussed on providing Business facing coverage to the FX Trading, Sales, Quant and Middle Office desks based in Hong Kong. There will be a need to provide weekend and on-call support on a rota basis.
The Bank’s primary FX trading platforms are in-house built.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake in the following;
• Day to day operation of FX electronic market making and order management systems
• Manage market venue and client onboarding for the FX system
• Python development for Quants trading analysis and automation for daily operation
• Front line support of a 24/5.5 production of the FX systems for both internal and external clients. Incident and problem resolution, maintenance and deployment of application software
• Ensure all production incidents, service requests and problems logged and resolved in the banks systems
• Producing and using SQL / KDB queries to provide ad-hoc requested information to stake holders and continuously assist in problem resolution
• Operate as part of a shift rotation, covering the hours of 07:00 – 18:30 including some bank holidays
• Weekend and evening coverage if required
• Perform weekend application upgrade, configuration and patching across multiple environments in line with requirements and procedures
• Regular communications with client base to provide status updates, successful solutions as well as documenting all activities for future reference
• Be able manage communication/relationship with 3rd party vendors
• Pro-actively Monitor alerts to respond to potential incidents in a timely fashion
• Work in a rotation to provide Sunday health checks and support for the FX market open in Asia
• Development of tools that can assist in day to day operations
Risk & Controls
• Understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which you are involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
• Maintain HSBC Internal Control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
• Be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with your role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
Key Requirements
• Experience in FX or Equities low latency/electronic trading systems
• Good experience in support/development for a trading desk ideally in a tier 1 investment bank or hedge fund
• Strong skills in system engineering concepts, UNIX/Linux, networking, query language (KDB/Q/SQL) and at least one programming language (Java/C++/Python)
• Understanding of production management (ITIL) concepts
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree ideally in quantitative field (CS/Maths/Physics/Finance) and should have good written and verbal communication skills
Essential Experience (in order of importance)
• Graduate level computing technology qualification(s)
• Understanding of the FX trading business, FX trading, pricing and risk platforms
• Desk facing experience in an investment banking environment working with front office staff
• Experience of working in a high pressure, continuously evolving environment
• Comfortable operating on command line only interface (UNIX/LINUX and Windows)
• Ability to navigate and extract information from various Databases: Oracle, Mongo DB, KDB
• Knowledge of scripting and programming (esp. SQL, UNIX scripting, VBA, HTML, XML)
Essential Skills
• Experience working in application support in the financial markets
• Scripting and programming knowledge to assist in troubleshooting
• Must be analytical and have excellent troubleshooting skills
• Willingness to take ownership for problem resolution and additional responsibilities where applicable
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Must be able to interact and work well with traders, back office personnel, vendors, futures business and other IT teams
• Customer facing skills - to be able hold one’s own in discussions with demanding front office users
• Experience managing 3rd party suppliers
• Process excellence – a passion to achieve results though effective organisation and process disciplines
• Maintain effective business partnerships with peer support & operations groups
• Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure for periods, individually and as part of a team
• Understanding of networking and TCP/IP family protocols
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues: Network, Disk space, High CPU
Preferred Experience
• Strong investment banking background that includes application support in a front-office environment
• Understanding of Capacity Management with ability to analyse current and future performance requirements
• Understanding of FX Cash products (Spot, Outright, Forwards, NDFs)
• Working knowledge and understanding of FIX Protocol
• Proficient at Python, java, C, C++
• Knowledge in messaging services including MQ/29West
• Oracle expertise
• Understanding of COLO environment model
• Experience working with Production/DR model
• Experience supporting FX front office trading and pricing systems
• Preferred experience with some or all of the following vendor products
• Geneos
• KDB
• Barracuda OMS
• Grafana/Influx DB
• SPLUNK
• Reuters TREP
