China Technology Correspondent
Reuters is looking for a dogged and scoop-hungry journalist to join our technology team in China, where s/he will help strengthen our coverage of one of the world’s most exciting industries. The successful candidate will have strong news instincts for top stories that appeal to our global audience, and be an energetic source builder as well as a team player. China’s artificial intelligence sector is on a trajectory of high growth as start-ups to tech giants race to be competitive with global peers, and how the country’s tech giants such as Alibaba and ByteDance adjust to these shifts, as wellas other changing industry dynamics, is being closely watched for the insights they provide about China’s business landscape and Beijing’s relationship with Washington and the wider world.
This is a great opportunity for a resourceful and creative journalist to tell impactful stories on China from multiple angles for a global audience.
The primary location will be Hong Kong but we will consider Shanghai and Beijing as options.
About the Role
In this opportunity as China Technology Correspondent, you will:
• Build sources among technology companies, their backers as well as policymakers to break news on company initiatives and the industry
• Track key Chinese companies that are reshaping the global technology industry as well as Western companies expanding in China, and get behind the scenes to identify trends and deliver deeply reported stories
• Write fast and accurate headlines and stories under time pressure
• Work closely with colleagues in greater China as well as the global technology team
About You
You’re a fit for the role of China Technology Correspondent if your background includes:
• Have great ideas and demonstrated ability to develop sources and deliver outstanding stories
• Have strong news judgement
• Have fluent Mandarin and English
• Be a strong communicator and team player
• Have experience developing beat expertise
